Distributing Prasadam to the Needy
Although the Vancouver Hare Krishna temple has been distributing sanctified food, "Prasadam", since the mission began in Vancouver in 1968, this is the first time that the temple has formerly launched the Hare Krishna Food For Life program.
The special day that was selected for this monumental occasion was March 7th. the day after Lord Chaitanya's appearance. This day is known as the "Festival of Jagannath Misra." Jagannath Misra is the father of Lord Chaitanya and in the mood of Nanda Maharaj, Krishna's father, Jagannatha Misra held a festival with a huge feast distributed to the masses in honor of the appearance of his son Nimai. (Lord Chaitanya) who is non different than Lord Krishna Himself. So this very appropriate day was selected to begin this very important program.
Our local Hare Krishna Food For Life program is part of the world wide "Hare Krishna Food For Life Global". It is the largest vegetarian food relief program in the world. Not only does the Hare Krishna Food For Life Global distribute prasadam to the needy, but it also helps with global disaster relief emergencies and is a forerunner in promoting vegetarianism.
Distribution of Prasadam to the needy has always gone on in various ways from our Vancouver Hare Krishna Temple and we have even done a Food For Life program in the past, but the official commencement of Hare Krishna Food For Life program is now working closely with the city of Vancouver and other organizations. This approach helps to open doors of opportunity to other avenues for both helping the needy and good public relations.
Vancouver's "new" F.F.L. program is under the capable directorship of one of our more enthusiastic members, Manavendra Musini (2nd. from left). He is working closely with the city and other non-profit organizations to see that the citizens of Vancouver get the chance to receive the Lord's mercy in the form of Krishna Prasadam.

ISKCON Vancouver contributes $10,000 to earthquake Victims
The Ammedabad quake victims are receiving $10,000 support from our Vancouver temple. An appeal went out to our temple congregation on Sunday January 28th for aide to help the Ammedabad quake victims. An overwhelming response was immediate. Members of our temple were even networking among their friends, colleagues and relatives to assist with the support. One feature of our organization is that our society has its own relief facilities to distribute food which is not only vegetarian & nutritious but sanctified as well. (Prasadam). And also there is little if any administration costs so the money goes directly to those who need it most. Repots from our ISKCON relief at the epicenter state that 12,500 plates of nutritious prasadam are being distributed daily to surrounding devastated villages around the clock.
The first report of ISKCON temples in India going to the quake zone with relief came from our Baroda temple. ISKCON Baroda, in Gujarat province, mobilized a team of devotees with 3 large vans and a 10 ton truck to distribute prasadam (sanctified food) and other emergency necessities such as blankets and water packets to the quake victims.
