Rama Vijay   Lord Rama's Vitory over Ravana    Sunday evening October 1st

Ram-Vijaydasami

The festival of Rama Vijaydasami (Lord Ram's victory over Ravana) was a wonderful success.

The culmination of the killing of the ten headed demon Ravana was particularly enjoyed by our younger devotees.

The Sunday evening program was preceded by a week long Rama-Katha depicting the wonderful pastimes of Lord Rama as found in the famous scripture Ramayan.

The Ramayana, composed by the great sage Valmiki, is principally a story of "victory of good over evil". The basic storyline is: Rama (who is an incarnation of God) goes into exile into the forest with his brother Laxman and his wife Sita (an incarnation of the Goddess Laxmi). When Sita is abducted by the evil Ravana from Lanka, Rama and his allies head out to rescue his wife and to destroy the ten-headed Ravana.

During the week long katha, each evening prasadam was served with a grand feast on the final day of Rama-Vijaydasami.

The ten headed effigy of Ravana was the creation of Bhadra Nitai Das who learned the skill while residing in ISKCON Mayapur.

Rama was played by Damodhar Kansal and the Katha was conducted in Hindi by our vice-president Akrura Das.

There is a regular Rama-Katha program conducted in Hindi conducted by Deenabandhu Das held on every last Saturday of each month at our Hare Krishna temple.

The Ten Headed Ravana is pierced by Lord Rama's arrow during the Rama-Vijaydasami (Lord Rama's Victory) celebration at the Hare Krishna temple on Sunday.

The last piercing arrow from Lord Rama's powerful bow causes the final destruction

of the ten headed Demon Ravana.

The Rama-Vijayadasami festival at the Hare Krishna temple was preceded by a week

long Rama-Katha in Hindi. A half dozen sets of Deities of Laksman, Hanaman, Sita and Rama were present during the wonderful Katha.
