In Loving Memory of Krsna Kanta

by Gaura Sundar Das  (her son aged 18)

My dearest mother whose death caused my strife

Krsna Kanta is the love of my life.

I can view a photo of her smiling face

But will never more feel her warm embrace.

I can hear her voice on tape resound

But I can’t say I love you to intangible sound.

She tolerated and forgave so much from me

But nonetheless loved me unconditionally.

She did so much for me and I feel so guilty

All she wanted in return is that I be a devotee.

Krsna Consciousness was her life and soul

And preaching its glories was her ultimate goal.

With her undying enthusiastic ambition

She lived to serve Srila Prabhupada’s mission.

My mother, Krsna Kanta Devi Dasi

Is now with Krsna for eternity.

Dear Mahidar prabhu:

PAMHO. AGTSP.

I was very sad to hear that your wife passed away recently. I have had the
fortune of knowing her from the time that she was a devotee in the Bombay
temple. Krishna kanta was always fixed in her services to Srila Prabhupada.
She never deviated from Srila Prabhupada's instructions. She was very fond
of preaching and she was liked by all devotees. She was a wonderful example
for all other devotees and a humble devotee. She did a good job in bringing
up her children in Krishna consciousness. I know that I am going to miss her
association when I come to Vancouver next. There is nothing to worry as she
has used her life correctly and based on the service she did, she is fully
protected by Krishna.

Remembering Krsna Kanta Devi Dasi

by Jaya Govinda dasa

On Friday morning, the 20th of July, Krsna Kanta devi dasi, a well-known disciple of Srila Prabhupada who lived in Vancouver, Canada, unexpectedly passed away.

Although the actual cause of death is not certain it appears to be related to an epileptic seizure.

She is survived by her husband Mahidhara Dasa and three children; Raman Retti, Gaura Sundar and Rasamanjari.

Krsna Kanta met Srila Prabhupada and became his dully initiated disciple in 1974 in Geneva Switzerland, the place of her birth in 1956.

Krishna Kanta prabhu was a dedicated mother, a dedicated business woman, a dedicated wife and above all a dedicated disciple of Srila Prabhupada.

She was involved closely with the Vancouver temple and maintained a visible daily presence. She maintained a strong spiritual sadhana and oversaw the morning SB class schedule. She loved to hear classes and was most conscious of recording them and providing the opportunity for others to hear these topics related to Krishna consciousness. One of her regular weekly activities was the Nama Hatta preaching program that she developed and maintained for years.

She had a very compassionate nature and was always spearheading relief efforts for the destitute victims of disasters such as flooding, earthquakes etc: She loved to participate in kirtan and was adept at leading them as well. She was knowledgeable in the philosophy of Krishna consciousness and a very competent class giver.

She was a dedicated mother who directed her children towards a Gurukula education and whenever possible she would take them with her during her daily activities as well as on vacation trips to Rathayatras and other Krishna consciousness festivals and places.

She maintained her household affairs by assisting her husband with their art store business.

As a person she was always happy and enthusiastic about progressing the actual mission in life of developing Krishna Consciousness.

Whomever she met she would encourage them in their attempts at promoting their spiritual life and she was very adamant at defending Srila Prabhupada's ISKCON mission.

Her realm of friendships is very far reaching to persons in all walks of life and for those who had the good fortune of knowing her, she will be greatly missed.

We've lost the association of such a nice devotee.  Personally, I was always so encouraged by Mataji's enlightened, super-pure consciousness.
Somewhere else they are getting the benefit we've kind of lost.
I hope that she fully wakes up to her original service.
Devotees should write things so that we can still have their association after they leave these bodies.

Re: Passing of Krsna Kanta Dasi

by His Holiness Bhaktimarga Swami

Dear God-Sister, Krsna Kanta Dasi,

This is a sober moment. You will be sorely missed. You left us so suddenly. But then, there have always been the warning signs that such a departure might occur considering your health condition. Despite your
encounter with seizures, you held an energy and enthusiasm that seemed to transcend your condition. That energy, an incredible reservoir was like an ocean with no shore. We will remember your great concern for doing things the Prabhupada's way, your concern for the people in general, your concern for your family and the community.

If we ponder why we miss a Vaishnava like you knowing that this is all external, then why lament? Because a Vaishnava's personality and character are Krishna's reflection, Krishna's opulence.

Although it will be tough, especially for the devotees of the Vancouver yatra who have grown to love you, we must all resign to the reality that you belong to Krishna. You are not anyone's property but His. We cannot hold anyone.

For now, we will beg that your super enthusiasm for service will be carried by the rest of us while we give comfort and support to your husband and children, who are all exemplary devotees of Lord Krishna.

Losing Mother Krsna Kanta
By His Holiness Vipramukhya Swami

Losing Mother Krsna Kanta was a great shock for me. I felt that she was just
like a member of my own family. Indeed, she treated me like a member of her
family, and always made me feel welcome in her home.

She always seemed supportive and had kind words to say. She encouraged many
devotees, myself included. She appreciated people. She loved to talk about
Krsna Conscious philosophy and avoided criticizing devotees. She was a good
mother with good kids. She was a good wife, a good devotee, and a good
friend.

How sad this is. I feel pain in my heart, not only for my own profound sense
of loss, but for the great and deep sadness that now envelops Mahidhara,
Raman Reti, Gaurasundara and Rasa Manjari Prabhus.

It is a deep sense of loss that the whole community of devotees in Western
Canada must be sharing, for Krsna Kanta was known and loved by all of us.

I am doubly sad that I cannot be there with you in this time of need. As I
write this letter I feel deep separation and sadness in my heart.

Oh, Krsna Kanta! How surprising that you have left us! You were younger than
I. Your children are young, still. Your Nama Hatta followers are dependent
upon you! How have you left us so suddenly, and without warning?

Can you please come back? Where have you gone?

I have heard from Bhagavad-gita that for the soul there is never birth, nor
death, nor having once been does he ever cease to be. We have read that as
we change bodies from childhood, to youth, to old age, the soul similarly
changes from one body to another at the time of death. I believe you were a
very sincere devotee and that you probably went back to Godhead all of a
sudden. But why do we all feel such a deep sense of loss today? Why do we
anguish in our feeling of separation from you?

I think we feel this way because you were a great devotee, and now we miss
you. We know in our hearts that you are all right. We know that you are
eternal and, having dedicated your life to Srila Prabhupada's mission, you
have suddenly gone to a new place. We know that you didn't appear to suffer
in your passing, and that you passed quietly and quickly, though
unfortunately for us, without warning. And so we also know that you are not
suffering now. Rather, it is we, those who are living still, those of us who
are still here, left behind, who are suffering. We suffer the loss of such a
great soul, and we suffer that we cannot see you anymore and tell you how
much we appreciate you.

Krsna Kanta devi dasi, somehow or other you have physically left us behind.
We are bewildered and saddened how this could have happened. But you have
not left our hearts and our prayers. Today we offer you our best wishes, our
love and our blessings. Please remember us to Lord Krsna and Srila
Prabhupada.

Your eternal servant,
Vipramukhya Swami

All Glories to Sri Guru and Gauranga! July 23, 2001 Krishna Era 5228

Dear Family members of Krishna Kanta devi dasi,

by: HH Danvavir Swami

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I join with you in bereaving the sudden loss of Srila Prabhupada's dear
spiritual daughter, my Godsister, Krishna Kanta. Such a shock. I only met
her a year and a half ago in Mayapur when she came to my book table. It was
obvious that here was a fired-up devotee, totally above any pettiness. It
was an inspiration. She invited me to visit Vancouver for preaching.

This world has lost a valuable asset but the spiritual world has gained one.

Let us continue on serving as she would like us to.

All glories to Krishna Kanta devi!!

A great loss for me and our entire community indeed!!!

by Susheel Gopalan

I am deeply saddened by the loss of a rare devotee, who was friend, mother and teacher. While I am confident that she has moved on to a better place, I know that I will miss her beautiful smile, he love, her kindness and most of all her sincere directions on perfecting Krishna consciousness. Over the last few years and even as late as a week ago, she had reviewed everything I had written on Krishna Consciousness and guided me as a mother guides an infant. She would always find the time to talk to me. She would always find the time to correct my flaws with love. For one who did not have the good fortune of associating with Srila Prabhupada in person, She was His finest ambassador. Her singular passion was exemplified in her dedication to imparting God Consciousness to the entire community. What made her unique was her beauty and finesse in human interactions. It was a reflection of her bhakti within. It seemed unshakable in the most trying circumstances.

Words cannot express my gratitude to God, for sending such a blessed and elevated soul down my path.  I pray that God will give strength to her 3 children and her husband to get through this difficult time, now that he has recalled one of his outstanding devotees.

Cheers & God bless.
Susheel.

Dear Devotees,

Please accept my humble obeisances. All glories to Srila Prabhupada.

I am feeling sad on hearing the passing away of Mother Krsna Kanta. She was
one of the most active participants in the classes during my visits. I will
miss her tremendously, especially her constant enthusiasm in always wanting
to drink more and more the nectar of transcendental knowledge.

Thank you. Hare Krishna.

mother Krsna Kantha.
The first memory that comes in mind was her beautifull smile and her energetic personality.
Those few times I saw her I felt her transcendental vib.and it was clear to me her dedication to the mission, and there is no doubt in my mind that Krsna is taking in care of her, personaly.
