Snana Yatra
(Bathing festival of Lord Jagannath)
Once a year Lord Jagannatha, along with His brother and sister Lord Balarama and Lady Subadra, come off the temple altar and are bathed by all Their loving devotees.
This is a very special
pastime of the Lord.
The bathing (abisheka) festival (snanayatra is said to be the birth
anniversary of Lord Jagannatha.
Lord Jagannatha is another name for Lord Krishna which means Lord of the universe.
Due to His intense cold He is taken to an intensive care facility and is temporarily absent from the altar.
The devotees who take care of
Lord Jaganntha during this time arrange for different juices as His special
medicine so the Lord can quickly recover.
All the devotees are invited to bring the Lord these special medicines in
the form of juices.
They Him medicine in the form or fresh juices.
You yourself can bring Lord Jagannatha some special medicine (various
good quality juice) for
His recovery.
Sometimes devotees like to bring "get well" cards as well.
These two festivals, Jagannatha Snana-Yatra and Ratha-Yatra have been going on since time immemorial in Jagannatha Puri, the place where Lord Jagannatha originally appeared milleniums ago. These same pastimes of the Lord now take place in major cities all over the world including Vancouver.
This year will
mark the 38th year that these festivals will take place in Vancouver
